in the future something will have happened
UK - South House, Faversham
June 24, 25, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Chicago - Roman Susan Gallery
September 1, 2
If you could fast forward time and skip ahead into the future—a month, a year, or a decade—which would you choose? Two people sit in a room talking. Two people take a silent walk. The probable is sidelined in favor of the possible. By the time you receive your letter from the future, something will have happened.
Each 45-minute appointment for In the Future Something Will Have Happened is for a single audience member. The performance begins and ends at South House and includes with a shared walk through the streets of Faversham. Audience members of all abilities are encouraged to join, please indicate any accommodations needed.
THIS IS WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR:
Credit will have been granted.
Lights will have been left burning.
A friend will have asked: “What do you mean by haunted?”
You will have changed the subject.
Steps will have been retraced.
Currencies will have been devalued.
Slogans will have been invented.
Tongues will have been bitten and tongues will have been tied.
Unexpected limbs will have sprouted.
Alarms will have been set and then changed.
Departures will have been rushed and calendars suspended.
After an interruption, conversations will have resumed.
Repeated requests to unsubscribe will have been ignored.
Pyrrhic victories will have been won..
Things will have continued to be things in the world. Some of those things will have been cardboard, chairs, Cheerios, Denmark, bowls, trains, mathematics, Spanish language instruction, moralism, George Elliot, carpenter ants, Jackson Five’s Greatest Hits, swimming, pan-psychism, both cheap and top-shelf liquor, plastic bins filled with assorted dongles and connectors, knee replacements, sidewalks
Borders will have shifted.
Fingers will have been crossed.
Something important will have escaped notice
Cleverness will have been rewarded.
Someone will have asked “is that you?”
Someone will have asked “how long has it been?”
Someone will have said “make yourself at home”
“feel free”
“help yourself”
“everything is ready now”
